Profile : Melanie knew that she wanted to be a writer when she would sneak Jane Austen books to read under her covers with a flashlight. This led to a career as an award-winning middle school English teacher, and to summers off earning a Master's in Writing. Since then she has taught composition courses at Florida Atlantic University, been the assistant editor of Teen Ink magazine's bi-annual poetry journal, founded the Parenting Ink blog, and birthed two children, Annabel and Luke. No matter how complicated her pre-children life was, nothing prepared her for the simultaneous tugs of love and frustration that is parenthood. Melanie writes on her blog about her children’s triumphs and trials, and she also explores the complexity of relationships, especially marriage, that come hand-in-hand with parenthood. By founding the blog, Parenting Ink, and by sharing stories from the trenches of parenthood, Melanie has created a virtual community of writers and parents. In addition to publishing her work on Parenting Ink, Melanie’s writing has been featured in The Kansas City Business Journal and EzineArticles.com. Besides her children, Melanie is most passionate about British royal history, dancing, country music, weekend travels with her husband, and staying up till 3 am with a five hundred-page book, a hobby that has been much inhibited by having children.
